Dental implants allow for efficient, predictable outcomes in replacing a single tooth or multiple teeth, helping a patient to restore both the aesthetic and function of their smile. In the past, dentures served as the only restorative option for those with missing teeth, however thankfully all of that has changed. At Ryde Specialist Dental Care, we’re passionate about providing patients with the highest quality of implant dentistry, as they provide a more stable, comfortable, and long-lasting alternative to dentures, bridges, and other fixed prosthesis.
The Dental Implant Procedure
The implant procedure consists of three separate phases: treatment planning, surgery and restoration. During the treatment planning phase, Dr Tang will obtain your dental and medical history before performing a thorough oral examination. Additionally, digital imagery and records of your jaw, mouth, teeth, and gums will also be taken. A treatment plan will then be devised, which is personalised to your needs.
The surgical phase involves the placement of the implant (a titanium screw) into the alveolar bone while you are under local anaesthesia. In some cases, a patient may not have enough bone in this area to support the implant, in which case a bone graft may be needed. Once the implant fuses successfully with the bone and surrounding gum tissue, the restorative phase begins. This simply involves fitting the crown, bridge, or denture permanently in place.
